PATTERSON LAUNCHES NEW, INNOVATIVE QUIET FAN

$

Patterson Fan Company has always enjoyed success as an industry leader in air movement solutions and technology. From high velocity truck coolers to HVLS ceiling fans, Patterson has always paid special attention to their customers’ needs, and worked closely with them to develop fitting solutions to their problems. In recent years, Patterson has received a large number of requests for a quieter fan that doesn’t sacrifice performance. Now, Patterson Fan Company is proud to announce…they’ve heard you. Introducing the db!

The Patterson db is the first “quiet fan” to hit the industrial market. This innovative, distinctly sleek design is made from highly durable rotomolded polypropylene. The db’s small footprint allows for more clearance in pick module and truck bay door applications (50% more clearance than our most popular 18” high velocity fan). With a half horsepower motor powering the double blower, the db is able to throw an evenly distributed column of air 50’ without incurring exorbitant energy costs.

While all of that makes the db a very impressive and highly efficient blower unit, its real claim to fame is the low level of noise output. At 65db, the db is 70% quieter than our 18” fan, and 9 times quieter than the average lawnmower*. Ease of communication will be greatly improved with that level of noise reduction, and improved communication is a key component of greater productivity.

Caster Concepts to Feature First Industrial Motor-Powered Caster at MODEX

$
0
0
Caster Concepts Inc. (CasterConcepts.com), the leading manufacturer of heavy-duty industrial casters and wheels, will showcase its latest innovation, the first motorized industrial caster, at MODEX 2016 April 4–7 in Atlanta.

With the development of the Drive Caster™, Caster Concepts elevates the design and development of casters to better meet the needs of today’s workforce. The Drive Caster™ integrates an electric motor with an industrial caster to create a single unit that can easily be added to carts, racks or just about anything that rolls on casters. With a mere flip of a switch, operators can effortlessly move heavy loads without fear of injury.

The Drive Caster™, along with the company’s full line of ergonomic and noise-reduction casters, will be on display at MODEX, booth #5077. The company will host a press conference at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, to discuss how its innovations reduce workplace injuries.

“This is a game changer because it is the first all-in-one, motorized industrial caster. Sure, there are motors that can be added to casters and carts, but we are the first to put them together into one unit for industrial applications,” said Caster Concepts CEO Bill Dobbins.

Caster Concepts offers the Drive Caster™ with a quarter-horsepower or half-horsepower motor, powerful enough to move loads of up to 6,000 pounds at up to five miles per hour. Adding a second Drive Caster™ doubles the load capacity that can be moved and enables tank-style steering, where each caster pushes in opposite directions to turn.

The Drive Caster™ (CasterConcepts.com/Drive-Caster) can be used in any application and in any industry, from automotive to aerospace, warehousing to distribution. And by making heavy loads easy to move Caster Concepts has eliminated the need for manual pushing or pulling, reducing the risk of injury and the need for multiple operators.

“Basically, this is a retrofit. Companies don’t have to go out and buy a new cart. Our motorized casters have the weight capacities equivalent to an automated guided vehicle’s (AGV’s) at a lower cost,” Dobbins said. “Essentially, you can put a Drive Caster™ on anything that uses an industrial caster.”

See the Drive Caster™ in action now on  YouTube. Visit booth #5077 to see an array of Caster Concepts products including: Drive Cart; Drive Caster; Swivel on Swivel rig on TWERGO wheels; and Ergo Maxx & New Ergo Maxx.

Today, Hannibal Industries, Inc. announced that it has been selected by leading system integrator, Storage Solutions of Westfield, Indiana, to provide its TubeRack systems to a brand-new distribution facility for United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) in Gilroy, Calif. UNFI is the leading independent, national distributor of natural, organic and specialty foods in the United States. The new facility, which is a 400,000 square foot building, provides jobs to more than 500 employees.

Completed in about four months, Hannibal worked closely with Storage Solutions to ensure the storage system not only met the demanding business needs of UNFI, but met seismic requirements as well as building codes and fire department compliance to ensure the new facility will be ready for distribution when its doors open in February. Given the good working relationship between the companies and a commitment to get the project done with excellence, the installation was completed by Storage Solutions’ company-employed installers.

“Hannibal Industries has worked hard with Storage Solutions to come up with a system for UNFI that will meet its needs, as well as carefully planned expansion options as the company grows and evolves,” said Steve Rogers, executive vice president at Hannibal. “This type of diverse warehousing setup is exactly what TubeRack is known for, as it is highly scalable and meets the ever changing business landscape. We look forward to working more with Storage Solutions and UNFI in the future.”

“As a national provider, Storage Solutions’ primary goal is to give our customers a partner they can count on to get their projects done right, no matter the size of the facility or where it is located across the U.S.,” Kevin Rowles, president of Storage Solutions. “We have been working with Hannibal Industries on the UNFI project and together we have built a system that will help UNFI distribute and deliver its products to its customers in a more efficient manner. We are pleased with our work with Hannibal and have plans to create solutions for customers in the future.”

Hannibal Industries is a pallet rack manufacturer providing material handling solutions to the food and beverage, home improvement, warehouse distribution, manufacturing, cold storage distribution, retail, archive storage, automotive and Third-Party Logistics Providers (3PL). Schmalz Brings Its Efficient Handling Solutions to Modex 2016

$

The box gripper for the Jumbo vacuum tube lifter, for instance, allows for the ergonomic handling of standard small load carriers. One of the areas in which it is put to use is in picking workplaces in the automotive industry. There, small load carriers have to be moved quickly and in large quantities. The integrated lifting slots in the crates are used to pick them up with maximum reliability. At an average weight of 20 kilograms per small load carrier and 50 picks an hour, the vacuum tube lifter transports a total load of 8 tons per shift, providing enormous support for the user in this heavy task.

As the logistics industry continues to see rapid growth, automated palletizing, commissioning and sorting solutions for cartons and other goods are becoming more and more important. This has also led to increased requirements for efficient, automated handling technology. At Modex, Schmalz will showcase the FXP vacuum area gripping system, which ensures maximum flexibility and reliability when handling workpieces of different shapes and sizes. Just one gripper can handle multiple workpieces with a width up to 20 mm simultaneously with speed and reliability. The vacuum generation occurs directly in the gripper, providing increased energy efficiency. Thanks to its low weight, the FXP area gripper is ideal for use on robots.

Furthermore, in intralogistics, whole product layers often have to be palletized and de-palletized. The SPZ-M layer gripping system with mechanical gripping support is perfectly suited to this task. This solution allows the user to handle intermediate layers, pallets, cardboard boxes, crates and film packaging with maximum efficiency. The suction area is available either as flexible foam or single suction pads and fully adapts to the structure of the workpiece and the task. By handling whole product layers rationally, the cycle time can be drastically reduced to a minimum.

A variety of vacuum components including suction pads, vacuum generators and control and monitoring components completes the range showcased at the booth. Schmalz offers users the chance to put together their own individual automation solutions from the range.

Hatteland to unveil largest ever AutoStore® demo at MODEX 2016

$
0
0
Hatteland will unveil the largest ever demonstration of its ultra-space-efficient, high-performance AutoStore® automated warehousing system at MODEX 2016. Built around a 50 square meter grid and featuring six robots and two carousel ports, the live system will show visitors how AutoStore can store up to 400% more goods in the same space as a conventional warehouse, at the same time as improving retrieval times, reducing energy costs and improving security.

With over 100 systems implemented in 21 countries across five continents, AutoStore is the fastest growing automated material handling solution in the world. Because the system is modular, it can be scaled and optimised to meet the needs of existing storage requirements while providing a future-proofed platform for growth. Each system consists of five standardized modules – grid, robot, bin, workstation and controller – and each installation is tailored to suit the specific warehouse surroundings.

AutoStore’s grid-based structure optimises the use of available storage capacity by eliminating walking lanes, empty shelves and wasted space. Fast robots driving on the top of the grid access goods stored in the bins below. These are put-away, re-ordered, accessed and delivered to the workstation required, with the system self-optimising over time. Access to the inventory is guaranteed all the time as each port and robot work independently and can be serviced without shutting down the entire system.

Compatible with any warehouse management software (WMS), AutoStore can quickly access all inventory data with extreme precision and confidence – resulting in shipment accuracy close to 100% and picking rates multiplied several times per worker. As
a fully automated, robot-based system AutoStore can help companies save energy by reducing lighting and heating requirements, while the fully closed environment in which the bins are unreachable from the outside world offers enhanced warehouse security.

Commenting on the AutoStore demonstration at MODEX, Karl Johan Lier, Hatteland’s CEO and President, said: “With six robots and two carousel ports, this is the largest AutoStore demo we have ever showcased. Our aim is to make visitors appreciate the benefits our standardised modular system offers in terms of space efficiency, speed, stability and control. AutoStore can be built in any warehouse surrounding – even on a 50 x 50 feet stand – as it occupies only a ¼ of the footprint compared to traditional systems while significantly increasing storage capacity and speed”.

ErectaStep Introduces Higher, Stronger On-Demand Crossovers at MODEX

$

ErectaStep LLC – a leader in on-demand OSHA-compliant stairs, crossovers and work platforms – is introducing higher, stronger system configurations at MODEX, “The Greatest Supply Chain Show on Earth.” MODEX takes place April 4-7 in Atlanta, GA, and ErectaStep will be in booth #1720.

“As has been the case since we invented ErectaStep, we can be at your facility to configure a solution one day and then deliver the product as early as the next day,” said Rob Honeycutt, CEO of SixAxis LLC, ErectaStep’s parent company. “By combining state-of-the-art 3D laser fabrication with design software that has the engineering built into it, we’ve been the first in the industry to be able to manufacture a high-quality product quickly and inexpensively using mass customization.”

“Our latest product innovation extends the available height of our on-demand turnkey solutions to 15 feet. And the really cool thing is that the higher you go in this system, the stronger the system actually gets.”

The ability to deliver ErectaStep on demand is driven by a custom version of the 3D Configurator, developed by ErectaStep’s sister company, Atlatl Software. Throughout MODEX, ErectaStep will demonstrate how it uses the 3D Configurator to revolutionize its customers’ buying experience.

This same quantum leap in sales, marketing and customer communication is now available to companies who sell their products in vertical markets throughout the supply chain. Atlatl’s Visual3DPro – Warehouse Edition will be available for hands-on demonstrations in the Atlatl booth, #1021.

“Imagine being able to use only an iPad to design, quote and track your products with all of the engineering and pricing built in,” Honeycutt said. “And imagine being able to show your customers what your solution will look like – right there in real time, using cloud-based technology. Or stop imagining. Stop by booth #1021 or booth #1720 and see the next-generation visual sales software that’s available right now.”

About ErectaStep
ErectaStep is one of 10 brands that are part of SixAxis LLC, whose products and services encompass the fall protection, loading platform, sales resource planning and marketing industries. THE COUNTERBALANCE FORK VEHICLE JOINS THE TUGGER IN THE POPULAR PRODUCT LINE

After the E’gv® Compact Tugger’s annoucement at ProMat and subsequent popularity of the vehicle, Egemin began developing the second attachment for the AGV’s base: the Counterbalance Fork. The E’gv Compact product line’s economical models are designed to work in many common material handling areas and can replace manual trucks to reduce product damage and increase throughput. The Counterbalance Fork model has a lift capacity of 2500 lbs (1134 kg) and is ideal for simple moves throughout a facility, such as single-height racking, empty pallet storage, palletizer pick & drop, dropping on stands, and floor storage. Since it can be intermingled with standard or custom E’gv®s in existing or new systems installed by Egemin, it can save time and money: the standard or custom vehicles can do the complex tasks such as trailer loading & unloading, and the E’gv® Compact Counterbalance Fork vehicle can move those loads from the floor to an inbound conveyor or storage.

The E’gv® Compact Counterbalance Fork vehicle has a standard mast height of 96” (2438 mm) with a top lift stroke of 66” (1676 mm). An optional low clearance mast is available at an 80” (2032 mm) mast height. Two different fork lengths are available: 42” (1066 mm) and 48” (1219 mm). This vehicle fully complies with the ANSI and EN safety specifications for Automated Guided Vehicles.

Videos and information about the E’gv® Compact Counterbalance Fork will be displayed at MODEX 2016 in Atlanta, GA. The vehicle will be exhibited for the first time at CeMAT 2016 in Hannover, Germany, in May of 2016.

Kardex Remstar will be on display at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2016 at Reliant Park in Houston, TX May 2-5 in booth #10159. Kardex Remstar has extended the weight capacity of the Shuttle XP Vertical Lift Module product for oil and gas operations looking to reduce floor space, increase productivity and increase profits.

The Shuttle XP 1000 can now be equipped with a factory-fitted crane. This crane is electrically operated and mounted on the Shuttle XP load profiles. With a crane dedicated to the storage and retrieval of items from within the unit, operations can reduce costs and increase productivity.

A compact, floor to ceiling solution, the Shuttle VLM eliminates wasted space commonly found in traditional shelving and rack systems to recover up to 85% floor space. This allows organizations to store more product in less floor space, creating space for oil and gas organizations to expand other revenue generating activities.

Operating on the “goods to person principle”, Kardex Remstar solutions are designed to bring the parts to the worker increasing worker efficiency and picking productivity. Eliminating wasted walk and search time commonly associated with manual picking and distribution in oil and gas operations, dynamic storage systems can increase productivity up to 2/3 and reduce labor requirements. More often, facilities are choosing to maintain current labor levels when implementing automated storage to increase picking productivity – resulting in even higher picking capacities without additional labor.

All Kardex Remstar solutions can be integrated with inventory management software to increase efficiencies and provide greater inventory control. Equipped with pick-to-light, technology, a TIC (transaction information center) is mounted at the access opening to direct the operator to the exact location to pick from, displaying the part number and quantity to pick, increasing accuracy to 99.9%.

Kardex Remstar, LLC, a company of the Kardex Group is a leading provider of automated storage and retrieval systems for manufacturing, distribution, warehousing, offices and institutions. For information about our dynamic storage solutions, call 800-639-5805, visit www.kardexremstar.com or stop by and see us in booth #10159 during OTC 2016.

CLEARPATH EXPANDS LINE OF SELF-DRIVING VEHICLES FOR INDUSTRY

Today, Clearpath Robotics expanded the OTTO line of self-driving vehicles with OTTO 100. The vehicle is designed for autonomous light-load material transport in factories and warehouses.

“The OTTO 100 takes the high quality and reliability of the OTTO 1500 and puts those advanced capabilities into a smaller form factor.” said Matt Rendall, Chief Executive Officer at Clearpath. “This enables new self-driving services in distribution, e-commerce, and manufacturing.”

The OTTO 100 system delivers dynamic and efficient light-load transport in increasingly congested industrial operations.  Traditional material handling systems require costly and rigid changes to infrastructure, cannot adapt to a changing environment, and are not safe for collaboration with warehouse personnel.  OTTO does not rely on external infrastructure for navigation, making implementation hassle-free and highly scalable.  OTTO 100 uses Clearpath’s self-driving OS to provide autonomous transport up to 220lb loads at speeds up to 4.5mph, while tracking along optimal paths and safely avoiding collisions.
OTTO 100 can be configured with a lift, bin carrier, or cart and integrates directly with ERPs via the OTTO enterprise fleet management system.

The OTTO family of self-driving vehicles includes OTTO 100 for light-load material transport and OTTO 1500 for heavy-load material transport. The entire OTTO material transport ecosystem will be showcased at MODEX 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia April 4-7 at Booth 3771.
