HANNIBAL’S CONTINUED GROWTH BODES WELL FOR MATERIAL HANDLING, MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES

April 3, 2017 (Chicago) – A staunch supporter of the American manufacturing movement, Hannibal Industries today announced that 2016 was a historic year of growth for one of the leading manufacturers of steel pallet racks in the material handling industry.

According to Executive Vice President Steve Rogers, Hannibal has experienced in excess of 30 percent annualized revenue growth over the last three years.  It also has added over 100 jobs while manufacturing and shipping in excess of 100,000 tons (200,000,000 pounds) of steel in the previous fiscal period.   Last year, the company also expanded its physical footprint in all three of its current locations: Los Angeles, Stockton, CA as well as Hannibal’s new manufacturing facility in Houston, TX.

Contributing to Hannibal’s recent growth, Rogers added, is “a significant increase in demand for our products and services.   We are unique in the material handling industry in that our foundation as a manufacturer of racking products was in Los Angeles. Our original core market was caught in a rapidly evolving landscape of seismic awareness and code changes and, in conjunction with RMI, Hannibal was able to stay a step ahead for our customers. Hannibal conducts a thorough analysis of code requirements and seismic conditions to ensure compliance with local, state, national and international regulations and provides the most cost effective design to meet these requirements. With our expansion into the South Eastern United States, our experience with safe and creative design provides a competitive advantage to our customers, even in low seismic geography.”

While pleased with Hannibal’s growth record, Rogers said he is encouraged by the signs of increased business activity by American manufacturing firms in general. He referred to a new industry forecast by the Material Handling Institute (MHI) and Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association that indicate steady but moderate growth in the next three years.

In addition to the product features on display, the company will hold a drawing at noon each day of the show for its granite Stingray fan (a $600 value) that will be shipped to winners the week following the event. To enter the drawing, guests must be present to have their badge scanned and to receive a ticket. Winners will be selected live each day of the show. Booth visitors may also enter to win the following giveaway items that will be drawn after the event: two Amazon Echo Dots, three $50 Apple gift cards and one $100 Visa gift card.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of this year’s MODEX show and introduce ourselves to those who may only know Hunter through our residential products,” said Jeff Chastain, senior vice president and general manager of Hunter Industrial Fans. “Booth visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about our Titan and ECO fans and what sets them apart in the industry. We look forward to meeting fellow exhibitors and attendees at this premiere event.”

Hunter Industrial Fans was launched in 2016 with its debut product, the Titan high-volume, low-speed (HVLS) fan. With blade spans ranging from 14 feet to 24 feet, this HVLS fan offers a competitive edge when it comes to efficiency (CFM/watt), installation cost, weight and maintenance. Using less horsepower, the Titan efficiently delivers equal or better output than the competition. New Testing Shows ORBIS® Plastic Pallet Can Withstand Up To 200 Cycles

$
0
0
OCONOMOWOC, Wis. — March 21, 2018 — ORBIS® Corporation, an international leader in reusable packaging, learned its 40x48-inch RackoCell® plastic pallet has approximately 18 times the life span of a 40x48-inch whitewood stringer pallet, according to a recent study. Researchers from the Virginia Tech Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design used the center’s FasTrack life-cycle analysis to compare relative durability.

The FasTrack life-cycle analysis included a 10-step handling sequence, which involved routine pallet handling activities, followed by inspections of the plastic and whitewood pallets. In testing, the RackoCell plastic pallet completed the sequence up to 200 times without failure, while the wood pallet’s average failure was after 11 cycles.

“We wanted to quantify the life and durability of plastic pallets to help companies understand the long-term cost savings associated with reusable plastic pallets,” said Ryan Roessler, product manager at ORBIS. “The FasTrack life-cycle analysis confirms just one of the many advantages plastic pallets have over wood. More companies are transitioning to plastic for their dimensionally consistent design, cleanability and environmentally friendly characteristics.”

The RackoCell is a one-piece plastic pallet manufactured for hygienic use in food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. It was chosen for this testing because it has performance characteristics that are similar to traditional whitewood pallets, including load ratings, footprint, and racking strength required in food manufacturing and distribution applications. In addition to lasting durability, the RackoCell is easily cleanable, keeps plants free of wood chips and can store products in unsupported racking systems while protecting loads from damage caused by nails or loose boards associated with wood pallets.

In addition to the RackoCell, ORBIS offers a large suite of plastic pallets that are available in a wide variety of footprints, materials and styles. By collaborating with their plastic pallet provider, companies should evaluate their systems to determine the pallet that best meets their application needs. ORBIS has a five-step process to help analyze, design and implement the best pallet program for its customers to ensure a seamless integration within a facility or entire supply chain.

Charleston, South Carolina, March 21, 2018 – Smith Corona, a leading US manufacturer of thermal labels and ribbons, sought to consolidate their storage space to add more revenue generating production lines; dramatically increase storage density in its historic downtown warehouse location; and create more storage flexibility. Smith Corona selected FLEXSPACE | Storax to deliver its mobile storage system, Poweracks, for its existing storage warehouse.

As with many manufacturers, Smith Corona faces the challenge of balancing sales growth and increased production with efficient utilization of storage space within an existing building footprint.  At the same time, Smith Corona is landlocked in its current historic downtown location.  With these challenges in mind, Smith Corona engaged FLEXSPACE to develop an automated storage infrastructure, improve inventory accessibility, and create a flexible work flow.

“The storage landscape is undergoing an unprecedented paradigm shift, as automation grows, expectations of storing more pallets in smaller footprints, and flexibility to manage warehouse inventory with full accessibility,” said Todd Jessup, principal at FLEXSPACE.  “The Storax Poweracks mobile racking solution delivers the automated storage systems that customers are looking for in new and existing warehouse spaces.”

Benny Bonanno, Senior Vice President of Sales said, “The Poweracks system enabled us to increase our storage capacity in our existing facility, increase our production lines, and utilize our space in the most efficient manner.  Poweracks also allowed us flexibility, total access to each pallet location which enables us to easily manage work flow and manufacturing processes.   The first installation exceeded our expectations; we are looking to expand Poweracks into other areas of our warehouse.”
Poweracks- mobile storage racking system- maximizes space utilization through use of a moving aisle, which provides direct access to every pallet location and greatly reduces the number of static access aisles required.  Wasted aisle space is converted to usage inventory space – increasing storage density by as much as 100% while providing the lowest cost per pallet, compared to all other storage options.

Swisslog experts to present educational seminars at MODEX
David Schwebel, Senior Director of Business Development for Swisslog’s E-Commerce/Retail business segment, will present Accelerating the Pace of Last Mile Delivery on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, 12:00 – 12:45 PM in Theater A.

Companies are turning to swifter alternatives to the traditional supply chain to remain competitive in a world where customers demand quicker and quicker delivery – not just same-day, but within hours of clicking “order”. This session will focus on the characteristics and operations of last mile / urban fulfillment centers and the opportunities for practitioners and suppliers alike.

Rupesh Narkar, Director of Sales for Swisslog’s Production Intralogistics business segment, will present Production Intralogistics of the Future on Monday April 9, 2018, 10:30 – 11:15 AM in Theater E. Traditionally, the production arena has focused on automating manufacturing processes to reach higher capacities and efficiencies. However, achieving a reliable, accurate and quick material flow to and from manufacturing cells/lines remains a challenge. Typically, there is little to no technology deployed in material flow leading to and from manufacturing that can complement the already highly automated manufacturing processes. Both Tier1 and OEM manufacturers are now intently focused on the opportunity to increase productivity by automating their material flow. Today, it’s possible to implement state-of-the-art automated material flow solutions that can accurately store, retrieve and transport goods faster without sacrificing reliability. In addition, these new automation solutions offer both flexibility and scalability, and are easily rationalized in modern production environments. Dynamic systems that can store and retrieve goods, intelligent algorithms that can optimize storage space and provide real-time tracking, and state-of-the-art conveyance systems that can transport goods from storage to assembly lines/cells are all being implemented in sophisticated production environments today. The “Production Intralogistics of the Future” has arrived and will be the focus of this presentation.

LOK-VU™ PROVES SEEING IS BELIEVING AT THE LOADING DOCK

$

MODEX/ATLANTA (April 9, 2018) – Rite-Hite’s® industry leading NEMA 4X Dok-Commander® system, which integrates multiple pieces of loading dock equipment into one centralized control unit, has now added a significant new element – a real-time trailer presence monitor, Lok-Vu™, which provides a camera view of the exterior vehicle restraint. It also lets users see when engagement with a trailer’s rear impact guard (RIG) takes place.

The Dok-Commander system allows equipment such as Dok-Lok® vehicle restraints, overhead doors and dock levelers to be programmed so they operate in a safe sequential order. In all cases, that sequence begins with the RIG of the backing trailer getting secured to the exterior dock wall by the Dok-Lok restraint. Having a real-time camera view to confirm this engagement adds another layer of safety and efficiency to this process.

“Operating external dock equipment with multiple controls at an internal dock position can be confusing and sometimes dangerous,” said Troy Bergum, product manager of Rite-Hite Products. “The re-engineered Dok-Commander system featuring Lok-Vu not only conforms with best practice guidelines for electrical control systems, the live camera monitoring provides a kind of safety and security never seen before.”

The Dok-Commander’s interlock feature ensures equipment is engaged in the proper sequence of operation at all times. Users can disable the use of a hydraulic leveler or overhead door until the vehicle restraint has achieved a safe engagement; require the overhead door to be opened prior to leveler operation; or ensure the leveler is stored safely before the restraint can be disengaged. The Dok-Commander can also be linked with an active building security system, which notifies that system (and activates facility response protocol) if an engaged vehicle restraint is tampered with. Should a vehicle engagement breech happen for any reason, the Lok-Vu video stream can help workers correct the problem by visually confirming when the restraint’s proper engagement with a trailer has been reestablished.

January 25, 2017 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – Hannibal Industries, Inc., a world-leading manufacturer of steel pallet racks for the material handling industry, today announced its patented TubeRack system has been successfully installed in Stanley Black & Decker’s new one million square-foot facility in Fontana, Calif.

Stanley Black & Decker, a world leading provider of tools and storage, commercial electronic security and engineered fastening systems,  is experiencing heavy growth and needed a racking system that was flexible and both seismically and load-bearing strong for its new warehouse and distribution center which is double the size of its former facility in Rialto, Calif.

“Because of the weight differences among its many hand and power tool products, we designed a racking system that can efficiently and safely accommodate all pallet loads – heavy or light – and can withstand any possible seismic movement,” said Brent Baltin, owner of Baltin Rack, one of Hannibal’s regional distributors.

“Our experience with the Hannibal’s patented TubeRack system has shown that it is the only racking solution that will work in the high seismic areas, such as those found in Southern California,” Baltin added.

The massive Stanley Black & Decker installation involves 1,900 pallet bays.  Each bay has six 60-inch high-load levels for a total pallet position count of 14 positions per bay.   The design load per level is 5,000 pounds with a 30,000-pound capacity per bay.

Additional information on Hannibal Industries is available at http://www.hannibalindustries.com, on Twitter @HannibalRack, on the Hannibal Rack YouTube channel and on LinkedIn.

RHV Vertical-Storing Dock Leveler Reduces Dock Shock and Increases Efficiency

$

MODEX/ATLANTA (April 9, 2018) – Rite-Hite’s redesigned RHV-4100 Vertical-Storing Hydraulic Dock Leveler has been created to help protect workers from injury and to improve efficiency and security at the loading dock.

Installed as part of a “drive-thru” application, the RHV helps facilities improve productivity and safety by enhancing environmental control and security at the loading dock. With this interior dock configuration, trucks back up to the loading dock with their doors closed. When they are secured at the dock, the trailer’s security seal is broken and the doors are then opened into the building. This process ensures cold chain integrity, in addition to increased security. It is also quicker for loading/unloading because truck drivers don’t have to leave the cab.

Another benefit is increased control of humidity and temperature at the dock, as the leveler allows the overhead dock doors to close directly onto the pit floor. The tight seal also prevents dust, insects and rodents from entering the facility, while also minimizing entry points when the dock is not in use for added security.

RHV levelers are engineered to provide the smoothest transition from the warehouse floor to the trailer bed, minimizing the potential for chronic personnel injuries (dock shock) and product and equipment damage at the loading dock resulting from bumps and gaps that exist on most vertical-storing levelers. To minimize dock shock, the RHV features a constant-radius rear hinge to create a smooth transition between the leveler and the warehouse floor, while a two-point crown control on the front lip hinge distributes the load evenly, smoothes out the transition between the leveler and the trailer bed and extends the hinge life.

For added safety, the RHV is a power-up/power-down unit that requires constant pressure on the controls to keep the operator in control of leveler movement. Removing pressure from the “raise” or “lower” buttons immediately stops movement of the leveler. The lip can also be extended or retracted at any time during the leveler cycle.  Safe-T-Pit is a standard feature on the RHV and provides an additional layer of protection with an automatic safety stop that is activated when personnel movement is detected in the leveler pit area during operation.

And because the RHV stores vertically, it allows for easy, routine pit cleaning or full wash-down. Additionally, in its stored position, it acts as a visual/physical barrier helping prevent potentially dangerous loading dock accidents and door damage.
