Tuesday, Feb 27, 2018 - That’s right. It’s your old friend, only smarter and better looking.

We’re all fired up about the launch of our new and improved website today.

First and foremost, we’ve redesigned the site for the most important screen in your life—your cell phone. Fans can now enjoy our resized, high-resolution photos in all their glory on any mobile device (but, let’s not lie, they look their best on large, wide-screen monitors).

Second, the site features a new library of spec data and performance metrics. Our engineers have been hard at work for the last three years, painstakingly testing each of our primary two-inch wheels for everything from startup/maintain forces to load distribution, footprint data and more. The data is specified by capacity for every 100 pounds. We think the details are going to blow you away.

Of course, none of this razzle-dazzle works unless you can find what you’re looking for fast. That’s why the site features a new and improved navigation structure and Advanced Search. You’ll also find:
  • Better 3D CAD rendering (more detailed, higher-resolution, faster processing time)
  • A new ergonomics education section
  • Expanded selection of helpful hints and tips for casters and wheels
We hope you’ll enjoy our new site as much as we enjoyed turbo-boosting it for you.

HEAVY DUTY BARRIER PROTECTS AGAINST DANGEROUS DROP-OFF AT THE DOCK

$

MODEX/ATLANTA (April 9, 2018) – Rite-Hite’s Dok-Guardian provides a physical barrier that prevents workers from becoming another unfortunate statistic at one of the most dangerous materials handling interaction points at a facility – the loading dock. With the ability to stop up to 30,000 lbs. of force, this loading dock barrier also has a unique pocket design that helps keep the barrier positively stored and out of harm’s way for safe loading/unloading.

"Most loading dock accidents are preventable," said Andy Olson, Rite-Hite marketing manager. The Dok-Guardian adds another layer of safety to ensure workers don’t fall out of an open dock door to the ground.

The openings at the dock represent one of the largest hazards at any facility. Material handlers and forklift operators are at risk of falling off the dock at facilities that don’t use proper barriers or gates. This 4-foot fall can result in serious injury or even death.

Made from bright red PVC-coated fiberglass mesh curtain and three yellow heavy-duty polyester restraint straps, the Dok-Guardian provides a strong visual and physical barrier to mitigate potential falls from dock openings. Operated manually, this 4-foot tall curtain is able to stretch across openings up to 16 feet wide. The barrier is anchored on both sides of a dock opening with Rite-Hite steel Warden guards, which provide door track protection.

The Dok-Guardian can be interlocked with a Rite-Hite Dok-Lok vehicle restraint to create a sequence of operation, ensuring full-time loading dock safety. The red light on the Dok-Lok control box indicates when the Dok-Guardian’s curtain is safely locked across the opening. When the lock button is pressed, the light turns green and the Dok-Guardian curtain releases to allow for easy loading and unloading of a trailer.

Orlaco will be at the MODEX trade fair in Atlanta, Georgia (US), from April 9-12. Modex is the trade fair for internal logistics, attracting visitors from all over the world. The theme of this year's fair is "Futureproof your Supply Chain," and will focus on the latest trends and innovations in internal logistics.

Futureproof Technology within Easy Reach
Orlaco is embracing the theme by presenting the EMOS Ethernet camera, which is designed for integration with Rugged Industrial Computers (HMI/IPC).  These devices are being used more and more often in warehouse vehicles, and the integration of images from a camera makes the vehicle futureproof. Integration on this devices is possible thanks to the Ethernet technology used in the camera, meaning that there is no need for an extra monitor. This helps keep the cab uncluttered and provides the operator with the widest possible view of the area outside the vehicle.

Safety First
While keeping up with the latest trends, safety is still at the heart of everything Orlaco does. The company's new range of digital cameras allow blind spots to be visualized even more clearly, minimizing the risk of accidents. Cameras also offer a convenient way to work, as operators can see precisely what they are doing on the monitor when picking up and putting down materials. This makes looking up or leaning out of the vehicle to gain a better view a thing of the past. This also increases efficiency, which is an important consideration in internal logistics.

At MODEX, Orlaco will also present its current range of camera monitor systems for internal logistics, such as the FAMOS compact camera and the RadarEye detection system. Find out more about our vision solutions at stand 946. The Orlaco team will be available to answer any questions and to discuss tailor-made solutions.

MODEX/ATLANTA (April 9, 2018) - Protecting areas that require a heavy-duty safety system yet must still allow unrestricted access just became easier, thanks to Rite-Hite. The new GuardRite Retractable Barrier is a modular and self-storing barrier system that can withstand up to 30,000 pounds of impact at 4 mph, making it ideal for guarding rail docks, finger docks, wide loading and flatbed loading areas, as well as protecting sensitive equipment and pedestrian areas.

The GuardRite system's core component is a 10-inch tall barrier that can stand alone or can be incorporated into an OSHA compliant removable safety rail system. The barrier consists of an 8-inch diameter sleeve, which fits into a 10-inch core-drilled hole, excavated 20½-inches deep. The impact-absorbing polyurethane sleeve surrounds a 3½-inch diameter bollard. The barrier unit is gas-spring assisted and can easily be raised or lowered flush into the floor with an operational tool that can store in an operational visibility post. The complete safety system includes the retractable barrier, visibility posts and removable handrails and can provide full run-off protection while still allowing unrestricted access along the entire length of the installation.

The modular nature of the GuardRite Retractable Barrier System makes it ideal for rail docks, where loading/unloading access points may vary by 200 to 300 feet or more. However, it will also have applications for wide loading, flatbed and finger docks, as well as protecting sensitive internal equipment installations and pedestrian areas from forklift impact. Rite-Hite engineers developed the GuardRite system after extensive input from facility managers in the paper, steel, lumber, automotive and carpet industries.

"Drop-offs and sensitive equipment areas with only a painted yellow line on the floor for protection can be dangerous, especially in areas where workers and materials handling equipment are present," said Andy Olson, Rite-Hite marketing manager. "The GuardRite Retractable Barrier helps make those areas safer with durable, reinforced dividers that are extremely space efficient and offer maximum flexibility."

RITE-HITE LED DOCK LIGHT OFFERS ULTIMATE FLEXIBILITY

$
0
0
MODEX/ATLANTA (April 9, 2018) – The Rite-Lite™ Flex Neck LED Dock Light, by Rite-Hite, incorporates Flex Neck Technology, allowing for flexibility and adjustability when lighting a trailer or container at the loading dock.
“There has been very little innovation in LED dock lights since they were initially introduced a few years ago,” said Andy Olson, marketing manager for Rite-Hite. “We wanted to bring something new to the market that addresses the unique demands found at the loading dock.”

The Rite-Lite Flex Neck features a multi-articulating arm made from molded nylon links. The links offer multiple bend points for increased flexibility at the loading dock. The bend points can be easily modified in the field to address unique needs, or obstructions that may be encountered at a dock opening. The links can be tightened, if necessary, to eliminate the sagging that often occurs with traditional metal snake arms.

The Rite-Lite Flex Neck LED Dock Light incorporates a variety of additional safety and energy-saving features. There are four different settings with visual indicators to clearly identify the current level of lighting, allowing users to select the desired level of light output. In addition, an optional, auto-dimming feature senses when a forklift or person exits a trailer and automatically dims the light to reduce glare. Finally, the light incorporates a dimming feature that recognizes when the light has been on for more than 30 minutes, with no activity in the trailer, and automatically resets the light to its lowest setting. All of these features help to reduce power consumption, while offering more lighting options for loading dock operators.

The Rite-Lite Flex Neck LED Dock Light incorporates an aluminum-cast, impact-resistant head designed to take incidental impacts from forklifts and overhead doors. The light uses CREE LEDs that consume just 18 watts of energy while outputting 950 lumens. The light is rated for 175,200 hours of service life and is IP55 rated.

“When it comes to flexibility, energy efficiency and lasting durability, the Rite-Lite is the new standard in LED dock lights,” Olson said.

SAFE-T-SIGNAL HELPS MAKE BLIND INTERSECTIONS & CORNERS SAFER

$

MODEX/ATLANTA (April 9, 2018) – Blind corners inside facilities just got safer with the introduction of the Safe-T-Signal intersection warning system by Rite-Hite. The ceiling-mounted system alerts workers when traffic is approaching from other directions using LED lights in the shape of red stop signs (octagon) and amber yield (triangle) signs.

“Intersections with blind corners can be dangerous, especially in areas where workers and materials handling equipment are present,” said Andy Olson, Rite-Hite marketing manager. “The Safe-T-Signal helps make those areas safer by providing a clear signal in all directions so workers know if the intersection is safe to enter or if they should yield or stop to wait for other traffic to proceed.”

Safe-T-Signal uses unidirectional microwave sensors to differentiate approaching traffic in all directions, whether it’s a 4-way, 3-way or 2-way intersection. When an object is within sensing range, the other directions on the device show an amber-colored yield sign. The worker approaching the intersection will not be presented with any lights. However, when two or more objects are approaching from multiple directions, those workers will see red LED lights on the device. The remaining directions will show amber LED lights.

In addition to high-visibility 40 lumen LED stop/yield signals, the Safe-T-Signal is equipped with a high-intensity 440 lumen blue signal that projects on the floor of the intersection. Less than 10W are required to run the device during standby, while fewer than 50W are needed at maximum use.

Constructed of steel, the Safe-T-Signal comes with a ¾-inch rigid conduit. It can operate in temperatures as cold as -40 degrees F and as hot as 140 degrees F. Certified for indoor use only, optimal mounting height is 10 to 16 feet, depending on the exact application.

RITE-HITE DEFENDER PROTECTS WORKERS DURING AUTOMATED PROCESSES

$
0
0
MODEX/ATLANTA (April 9, 2018) – Rite-Hite Machine Guarding has introduced the industry’s most sophisticated automated barrier door, the Defender. Designed to guard machinery, contain processes and protect employees from robotic/machine movement zones, the new door boasts patent-pending upgrades to its non-contact safety switch configuration, control systems and interlocking capabilities.

It also features a new, more resilient curtain material that resists a wider array of application driven hazards and offers optional variable frequency drive to control curtain speed. In addition, it utilizes new quick-disconnect cables, which allow for easier installation and integration than comparable barrier doors.

Like its predecessor, the Slimline, Rite-Hite Machine Guarding’s new Defender is a high-speed, high-cycle automated door that separates machine operators and manufacturing processes. It is an ideal safe-guarding device for robotic welding cells, material handling, automated assembly, palletizing/packaging machinery and other applications that require electronic safe guarding devices. It also contains fumes, sparks, smoke, mist, flying debris, excess noise and other common manufacturing process by-products. Additionally, the Defender’s roll-up design leaves a minimal footprint into the typically crowded manufacturing cell.

The Defender automated barrier door features a host of innovations, including:
  • PLe hold-down mechanism, which locks the door in “down” position to allow for machine “de-energizing” time (necessitated by issues such as roll inertia in the paper industry.)
  • Redesigned rotary cam limit switch, encoder positioning and variable frequency drive, to control the curtain’s operating speed and position, dramatically improving the adjustability of door position, speed and control.
  • Non-contact interlock switches, manufactured by Jokab, Pilz, Schmersal and Allen Bradley. These provide up to PLe specifications per EN ISO 13849-1 when integrated properly.
  • Designed with EN 10218-2 specifications in mind.
“The Defender is the most feature-rich automated barrier door ever manufactured by Rite-Hite Machine Guarding,” said Rite-Hite Doors Director of Marketing Jon Schumacher. “It takes into account all aspects of the new regulations and the demands of the industry as a whole. Given the new OSHA (ISO 13849-1) and RIA (EN 10218-1) regulations, it should appeal to a wider variety of industries than any of our previous automatic barrier doors, including new manufacturing processes and industrial applications including conveyors, industrial elevators and palletizing applications. Additionally, the Defender is a great alternative to light curtains and area scanners, going the extra step to contain the process.”

CARTS AND TUGGERS HELP MANUFACTURERS COME CLOSE TO FORK TRUCK FREE

$

STURTEVANT, WI – Topper Industrial, a leader in material handling equipment and solutions states that the lean goal is to move toward a forklift-free operation wherever it is practical. An Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) tugger and cart system is a forklift-free system that compliments lean manufacturing by shortening lead times, minimizes waste of the production line, and maintains an even flow of activities. A tugger cart system reduces the need for many forklift trips.

A fork truck free cart delivery system typically requires less than half of the equipment and labor because one tugger can tow from four to eight loaded carts while a traditional system needs four employees to operate four forklifts. However, the choice to go forklift-free is not simple and does require preparation.

Before switching from forklifts, the workflow throughout the shop must be evaluated to examine how each department and its suppliers will be impacted and what, if any, size or weight limitations may be involved. If carts limit certain material from converting to mobile queues, then a forklift will work better.

MODEX/ATLANTA (April 9, 2018) – Industrial doors have undergone dramatic technological improvements in recent years, offering facility managers dramatically reduced cycle times and increased efficiency. Rite-Hite Doors has pioneered much of this technology, with products like FasTrax doors.

The roll-up design of FasTrax doors allows them to operate at industry-best speeds of 100 inches per second, minimizing air intrusion while maximizing productivity. These high operating speeds also decrease the likelihood of forklift collisions. However, if bumped or impacted, a FasTrax door can easily reconfigure itself to get back onto the door track. It is also the safest door in the industry, with features including Soft-Edge™ Technology and thru-beam photo eyes.

FasTrax versatile track designs allow the door curtain to store in multiple track configurations, which makes it unique from other roll up doors. FasTrax doors will fit in almost any application with fewer costly building modifications.

FasTrax can be used in a variety of applications including wash-down, high-wind, and cooler or freezer high-cycle application.

GRAPHIC USER INTERFACE MAKES DOOR CONTROL SAFER & EASIER

MODEX/ATLANTA (April 9, 2018) – The Graphic User Interface (GUI) by Rite-Hite is an easy-to-operate door control box that enhances worker safety and provides real-time data. The new interface uses low voltage connections from the larger junction box near the motor to provide access to door settings without the risk of arc flash – eliminating the need for workers to wear personal protective equipment when making adjustments or troubleshooting.

The Graphic User Interface system features a 7-inch, color LCD touch screen with easily understood icons and descriptions regarding adjustments. Intuitive graphics and design make troubleshooting simple for workers. The panel also provides instant data on the door, including number of cycles and average cycle time per opening and closing. It can be integrated with many building management systems to provide further operational efficiencies in a facility. The GUI also supports multiple languages.

“Not only is the GUI’s 7-inch screen an aesthetic upgrade over traditional door control boxes, it’s a major improvement in functionality and operability,” said Jon Schumacher, Rite-Hite Doors marketing director. “The GUI goes beyond Rite-Hite’s core safety mission by providing actionable data monitoring.”

Don’t be fooled by the product’s sleek design; the GUI is built to last. The plastic NEMA 4X enclosure is designed for any application – from interior or exterior use to wash-down areas, coolers and freezers. The control box is pre-wired, factory tested and can be used on any Rite-Hite door with an i-COMM III digital control and encoder. It’s wireless interlock capabilities reduces the cost and complexity of hardwired interlocks.

RITE-HITE LED COUNTDOWN® PROVIDES TIMELY SAFETY

$

MODEX/ATLANTA (April 9, 2018) – The new LED Countdown light communication system from Rite-Hite uses LED lights to let workers know exactly how much time there is before a high-speed door closes. Sometimes a few seconds can mean the difference between a serious accident and efficient operations.

Now standard with all Rite-Hite FasTrax High-Speed Doors, the LED Countdown works in conjunction with the door’s internal timers. When the door is approached, an up arrow will signal that the door is opening. A white box will appear when the door is in a fully open position. Once the forklift or personnel exit the door’s threshold, a timer will count down. Numbers will appear in white lights until two seconds remain; then the number appears yellow. The actual time for white and yellow lights is adjustable by the end user. This is a pre-announce indicator, cautioning that the door is preparing to close. Once the red downward arrow appears, the door will shut until it is reactivated again.

This system is an alternative to – or can be the perfect complement to – high-speed doors that use clear plastic vision panels. LED Countdown timers are typically placed just outside of the door’s frame, but they can be set up anywhere that promotes the easiest visual for forklift operators and personnel.

LED Countdown joins a full Rite-Hite lineup of light communication devices introduced earlier this year – including the LED Pre-Announce and LED Virtual Vision. All three communication devices can be retrofit to work with most Rite-Hite doors.

Arlington Heights, IL –  With the packaging industry asking for higher labeling speeds and more flexibility, Weber Packaging Solutions has just announced the arrival of its newest label applicator: the Alpha HSM. Featuring modular construction, this high-speed labeling system can be configured in a variety of models that can handle multiple speeds and label sizes.

Every packaging line is different, so Weber engineered the modular Alpha HSM so that it can be ordered in ten different versions to fit just about any labeling application. Available in right- or left-hand versions, the Alpha HSM has 5.3” (135mm), 7.8” (200mm), 9.8” (250mm) and 12.6” (320mm) label width versions. The HSM can keep up with line speeds up to 500 feet/minute.

With a labeling accuracy of ±0.01”, the Alpha HSM can handle labels as small as 0.39” x 0.39” (10mm x 10mm) and up to 12.5” x 78.7” (320mm x 2000mm) (W x L).  Depending on the label width configuration, the HSM can handle label rolls up to 19” in diameter on 3” diameter cores.

Three different user interfaces are available including OLED display, external PLC module or a web-based control. And the system is IP65 certified for dust and water spray protection and is constructed of durable aluminum with high rigidity for all working label widths.

The standard mechanical label unwinder and rewinder can be upgraded to a motorized servo-controlled system for higher speeds. Application modules for the HSM include a fixed peeler plate, a swiveling peeler plate, a pneumatic peeler plate, and adjustable peeler plate or a pneumatic applicator. Label sensors can handle standard and transparent labels.

Multiple interfaces allow connections for HMI display, product detector, rotary encoder, I/O signal, Ethernet network, and an aux in and aux out for sensor attachment.
