Kinedyne Sets Higher Standard for Working Load Limit with Unveiling of RHINO MAX and K-FORCE Brand Load Securement Straps

LAS VEGAS, Nev., USA — Kinedyne LLC, a world-leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of cargo control technologies, including cargo securement, capacity and access solutions for the transportation industry, announced the introduction of a family of new ultra-heavy-duty load securement straps. The new RHINO MAX brand of winch straps and ratchet straps will replace Kinedyne’s abrasion-resistant Rhino Web line. The K-FORCE brand of winch straps, ratchet straps and logistics straps is a completely new offering from the company. The new and improved RHINO MAX and K-FORCE straps will be displayed for the first time at Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW) 2018.

RHINO MAX and K-FORCE winch straps have a working load limit (WLL) of 6,670 pounds, 23 percent greater than the current industry standard of 5,400 pounds. RHINO MAX and K-FORCE ratchet straps have a WLL of 4,000 pounds, 20 percent greater than the current industry standard of 3,335 pounds. The K-FORCE logistic strap has a WLL of 1,500 pounds, 50 percent greater than the traditional 1,000-pound rating.

“Kinedyne has established a new and higher bar for winch, ratchet and logistics straps that is 20 to 50 percent higher than others on the market,” Paul Wolford, vice president of sales and marketing for Kinedyne LLC, said. “The high-tech looms in our Prattville, Ala., location allow us to use more polyester material than standard rated winch and ratchet assemblies, thus enabling our new load securement straps to perform with greater capacity.”

Kinedyne weaves its own webbing in the U.S. and is able to maintain strict quality control over its entire manufacturing operation. The new RHINO MAX and K-FORCE straps are engineered to manage heavier loads and employ more polyester material in the body of the strap than Kinedyne’s previous webbing.

Kinedyne also used its advanced engineering capabilities in the development of its new RHINO MAX brand winch straps and ratchet straps. Significantly stronger than its Rhino Web predecessor, RHINO MAX load securement straps are coated with the same award-winning abrasion-resistant chemical coating that made Rhino Web a favorite of fleets and owner-operators looking for a strap capable of standing up to severe-duty environments. The new straps retain the famous rhino-gray color.

“Rhino Web changed webbing durability standards when it was introduced in 2002, and now, with the enhanced WLL of our new RHINO MAX, there is no equal for its strength and durability,” Wolford said. “With RHINO MAX, users will secure heavier loads with fewer straps and will continue to appreciate the famed Rhino toughness.”

With the introduction of Kinedyne’s RHINO MAX and K-FORCE brand load securement straps, the company now has three tiers of strength and durability, uniquely positioning it among heavy-duty equipment suppliers. Kinedyne’s product foundation remains its ubiquitous standard gold load securement strap with black edges. The second product tier includes the new and stronger K-FORCE brand, and at the apex is the ultra-strong and durable RHINO MAX brand. Kinedyne’s good, better, best product offering enables end users to self-select the price point and associated product characteristics that fit their specific load securement needs.

RHINO MAX and K-FORCE brand load securement straps are commercially available now and can be purchased through Kinedyne’s extensive distribution network, which includes thousands of outlets across North America. Users can find distributor locations near them by calling Kinedyne’s customer service department at 800.848.6057 in the U.S., 800.268.3530 in Canada and 011.5255.53184844 in Mexico.

Columbia Machine recently partnered with OTTO™ Motors. As a Certified OTTO Motors Integration Partner, Columbia Machine is able to incorporate the OTTO 1500 Self Driving Vehicle (SDV) into current and future applications. The OTTO 1500 is a heavy duty self-driving vehicle that is designed to move pallet loads that weight up to 3,400 pounds through dynamic working environments.

Ted Yeigh, Sales Director, states "Columbia is excited to now have a SDV to include into the palletizing solutions that Columbia provides. With more companies implementing multiple pack lines, yet having fewer workers available, the SDVs offer a more flexible means to transport loads throughout a manufacturing process."

The OTTO 1500 SDVs create free, open access to the discharge point, as well as to other equipment in the area, such as case erectors. Further, they navigate autonomously, independent of sensors embedded in the floor or laser reflectors on the walls. Instead, the vehicles use LIDAR and encoder wheels to determine their location based on a map is stored onboard the vehicle. The SDVs are directed by OTTO M, the software used for managing and optimizing the day-to-day operation of your fleet. OTTO M also provides real-time monitoring, remote back-ups and cloud access. Workers can interface with OTTO via an optional tablet interface, allowing requests to be sent to the SDV fleet. Each vehicle can operate 24/7 by using opportunity charging technology to autonomously visit its charger.

23. January 2018 - AutoStore, with its unique cube-based automated warehouse, is faced with explosive growth in the US market and has decided to expand their organization to American ground. AutoStore is distributed, installed and serviced by a network of qualified system integrators, and the US AutoStore team will continue to support Bastian Solutions, Dematic and Swisslog, but now on the same continent.

“Due to the fantastic increase in activity in the North American market, we felt the only decision was to open an office close to this market. We are excited to be able to support the sales of our modular grid-based robotic picking solution directly out of our new US Headquarters in Derry, New Hampshire,” states Paul Roy, General Manager – North America.

The new US headquarters located at 3 Corporate Park Drive in Derry, New Hampshire is a 20,000 sq. ft. facility that will be used to support the North American market in many ways. This new facility will provide quick deliveries of spare parts, customer service support, various training programs, sales support and a full AutoStore demonstration grid to allow potential customers to experience the benefits of the technology first hand.

Going forward there will be live demonstrations and open house events. Check out autostoresystem.com and sign up for more information.

AutoStore will attend Modex with exciting new releases. Visit Booth # B3713

About AutoStore
AutoStore is a modular piece picking system. It consists of five standard modules: robot, port or workstation, grid, bin, and controller.  The robots drive on the top of the grid to access inventory stored in the bins below. The bins are put-away, retrieved and delivered to the ports or workstations as required.

When compared to conventional storage density, AutoStore can store up to 2-3X more inventory in the same space. The solution can be installed in oddly shaped buildings, around pillars or on several levels and fills out the warehouse space potential to its maximum. The AutoStore infrastructure is independent of the building structure; disassembly and re-location is feasible and cost-effective.

AutoStore is an eco-friendly solution. Overall power consumption is low energy. Recovery occurs during bin lowering and robot braking. Ceiling lighting is not needed. It requires less space due to the compact structure.

The AutoStore solution is built around the “goods-to-person” principle. The key benefits of goods-to-person include: eliminate worker travel time to pick locations, picking productivity, omit dedicated pick faces (no slotting, re-slotting, manual replenishment), product security/inventory accuracy, order processing speed, and order accuracy. Furthermore, the worker environment is ideal. AutoStore technology supports a quiet, clean environment with reduced fatigue factors. Workstations are designed for ergonomic operation.

AMK Automation Corp. to Demonstrate Flexible Machine Automation Solutions at MODEX Atlanta

$

January 25, 2018 - AMK Automation Corp. will exhibit some of the most flexible drive and control technology for material handling at MODEX Atlanta, April 9-12, 2018. The AMK Automation display will be at booth B1163 in Building B of the Georgia World Congress Center.

Ideal for material handling applications such as palletizing, conveying and AGVs, the AMK Automation portfolio features both centralized and decentralized control solutions designed with the machine in mind. The booth will showcase demonstrations of a centralized single-cabinet design as well as a working decentralized machine, where a self-contained controller from the company’s AMKASMART™ series is supporting multiple axes of movement. The AMKASMART line includes servo controllers, servo drives and integrated motors and drives.

“We can help customers reduce costs and save valuable floorspace in conveyance or production facilities,” said Tom Jensen, Executive Vice President and General Manager. “We take what is typically a complex and costly product design and simplify it with the AMKASMART solutions by combining the power supply and motor function into one powerful decentralized machine controller that can support the most demanding machines.”

Jensen will be presenting “The standardized control of non-standard conveyor components” on Tuesday, April 10 at 2:15 p.m. in Theater B. He’ll discuss how simple-to-connect smart drives enable cell controllers to focus on parameterization rather than creating programs from scratch. He’ll explain how creating machinery modules with these smart drives that are based on a standard command concept lets a cell controller, which manages those drives, do this. And, if done right, this standardized control of non-standard conveyor components redirects the goal from “how do we integrate this?” to “what changes can we make to improve our throughput?”

The AMK Automation booth at MODEX will feature a working demo showcasing the AMKASMART portfolio, a hybrid system available to customers as well as a variety of drives, controls, and motor solutions to help provide material handling equipment design firms and end users with better technology options. The solutions on display include:

Hybrid Automation Solutions: AMK’s hybrid machine automation solution provides flexibility, with centralized solutions for when power is needed, and the ability to quickly add remote modules. AMK’s hybrid automation utilizes the compatibility of various system structures, including a concept of combinable drive and control technologies with central or decentralized drives, or any variation of these.

Decentralized Solutions: The AMKASMART decentralized drive technology from AMK provides true modularity for machine construction with limitless machine power and the ability to eliminate costly control cabinets. The AMKASMART product family includes a variety of servo controllers, such as the compact iX servo controller; the iC servo converter, consisting of a servo controller with integrated power supply module; and the iDT "all-inclusive model," in which the servo controller is installed directly on the motor.

Linear Drive Motors: The recently released SPINDASYN SEZ™ electronic cylinder  from AMK is a linear drive motor system in which the rotor is pressed directly onto the screw. Featuring high and constant force, high precision and high energy efficiency, the closed-loop positioning and force control of the SEZ make it an ideal alternative to other linear technologies such as pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders, rack and belt drives and linear motors. With several options available for screw and strength length, motor type and acceleration, the SEZ is installation-ready and provides high rigidity without additional wearing parts.

Pick to Light Devices Batteries Quick and Easy to Change says Voodoo Robotics

$
0
0
Voodoo Robotics Pick-to-Light devices have batteries that are quick and easy to change. Batteries are accessible from the front of the device, without removal. The devices re-synchronize with the database upon startup, so manufacturers never lose Pick-to-Light device data.

The battery voltage of each device is continuously monitored by the system. The device itself always displays the current battery voltage or a low-battery warning. On the SKU-Keeper server, manufacturers can easily get a list of Pick-to-Light devices and their locations that have battery levels below a cut-off value that is specified.

The Pick-to-Light devices have been designed to maximize battery efficiency. The devices spend most of the time “sleeping.” With typical use, the two AA batteries could last years, depending on how frequently the device is activated.

Voodoo Robotics, the leaders in IIoT Pick-to-Light Solutions, will be exhibiting at MODEX 2018 April 9-12, 2018 in Atlanta, GA at booth B4375.

About Voodoo Robotics

GREENVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 31, 2018) – The past decade has seen a radical shift in the role of the B2B salesperson. With approximately 60 percent of customers now beginning their buying process online, digital access to product information means control lies in the hands of the customer. This transformation means customers now look to salespeople to deliver value as a consultative solutions provider. The Academy by Yale is a multi-phased training program designed to better position sales professionals as experts in distribution and fulfillment markets.

“Just as technology has affected the nature of our industry, it also affects how customers get information and what they expect from the sales process,” says Evelyn Velasquez-Cuevas, Manager of Product Sales and Training, Yale Materials Handling Corporation. “We’re in the age of a self-educating customer who is more informed than ever and wants deeper insights – not just basic equipment information. The Academy by Yale offers a tremendous opportunity to build a consultative corps of salespeople ready to deliver valuable, application-driven insights rooted in the challenges customers face.”

The Academy by Yale draws on a variety of industry associations, academic programs and other expert sources to provide a comprehensive, well-rounded view of distribution and fulfillment environments, including racking and storage, batteries, warehousing, order picking and more. This input enables recommendations beyond the equipment, to workflows, service and solutions to help improve overall operational performance.

The first graduating class completed the program in December 2017, with additional classes expected to come in 2018. The program allows students to apply classroom teachings in a supervised manner and blends in-person instruction with remote training events, ultimately building toward a final capstone project.

Topper Industrial Manufacturers Caster Plates for Tube and Joint Structures that Increases Stability.

Topper Industrial, a leader in the material handling equipment industry, introduces a new caster plate which increases stability. The caster plate has a standard hole pattern to use with multiple types of casters so the customer has choices. With the new Topper caster plate (Topper Tube Part No. 9000), the placement of the casters is moved to the outward extremities on the structure, increasing the stability and ensuring better mobility of the unit.

"The caster plate is durable and long lasting. It will help increase the life expectancy of the structure it is used with. Users are able to have more options when picking casters used with their small parts movement. Adding the plate to the caster is an efficient way to move parts from point A to point B without the fear of dropping, tipping or being damaged. Now, with these durable casters and plates, warehouse operators and manufacturers do not have to worry about product damage," says Eric Brown, Head of Research & Development at Topper Industrial.

Typical tube and joint caster placements are inward on the structure due to the construction with joints and the type of casters used. Tube and Joint structures are generally made for low weight capacity and periodical movement. In the application when light weight, costly or fragile parts are needed to be moved every day in a sequence, the added plate to the caster and outward positioning of casters ensure the safe delivery of such parts.

Charleston, South Carolina, February 1, 2018 - Modex 2018 is the largest manufacturing and supply chain expo held in North America and South America. Storax | FLEXSPACE in booth 620 will be showcasing the emerging trend of high density storage in the manufacturing and supply chain management world.

For more than 50 years, Storax has been an industrial storage innovator. Its mobile racking system, Poweracks and high-density pallet shuttle, Ranger are in use in over 60 countries in a wide range of industries and applications. Storax's industrial mobile storage solutions help customers drive operational excellence, efficiency and increase profitability.

In the manufacturing industry, attendees will see the how Poweracks, the mobile racking solution, can be easily retrofitted into an existing warehouse or manufacturing facility. One of the country's historic manufacturers - Smith Corona, the manufacturers of the first typewriter - installed Poweracks in an existing warehouse which increased storage capacity, lowered overhead costs by not having to maintain two warehouses, and increased productivity.

"Our engineering and construction teams were able to retrofit the Smith Corona warehouse with Poweracks in about one month with minimal business interruption," said Todd Jessup, principal at FLEXSPACE. "After the team at Smith Corona witnessed the ease of installation and increased productivity of Poweracks, they have elected to convert additional static rack areas to Poweracks."
In the cold storage and food processing industries, attendees will be able to see how Poweracks and Ranger automate storage capabilities, increase storage capacity, and decrease labor and operating costs.

"Nearly every industry can benefit from the increased storage capacity, decreased costs, and increased productivity afforded by the Storax high density storage solutions - Poweracks and Ranger," continued Jessup. "Modex is the perfect venue to continue the discussion and education of the North American market on high density solutions."

Alien® Unveils New Handheld RFID Reader with All-Day Battery Life for Use with Latest Smart Devices

$

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 10, 2018 – Alien Technology®, a leader in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), today announced the new ALR-S350 RFID reader, which will make its debut at the NRF 2018 show (Booth 322) next week in New York. The ALR-S350 will be showcased along with additional Alien RFID solutions, including the new Hydra Series, that help retailers and supply chain owners overcome inventory tracking challenges, cut costs, and ultimately transform the customer experience and enable new omnichannel business models.

“In today’s omnichannel and just-in-time world, product and component availability is critical. Many organizations have inventory visibility and accuracy challenges which make it nearly impossible to deliver a consistently great customer experience,” said Neil Mitchell, Senior Director of Marketing at Alien. “Retailers need to use every store and supply chain resource to quickly deliver what customers want and need. With the new ALR-S350 and Hydra readers, supply chain owners can quickly locate RFID tagged merchandise and immediately respond to customer requests, thereby helping maximize sales opportunities.”

The ALR-S350 offers powerful RFID tag reading performance and long battery life, which makes it the ideal UHF RFID reader for heavy inventory tasks. By including the RFID capability in the handheld sled device and separating the operating system, display, and communications technology into a smart device — it gives users the freedom to use their personal phone or tablet, which has become popular as part of the growing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) business trend.

“RFID sled readers are becoming more important to retail, logistics and commercial markets that have applications running on standard operating systems such as Apple® iOS or the latest Android® operating systems,” said Mitchell. “Traditional monolithic readers have embedded operating systems that can’t normally be updated, as well as fixed cellular and WiFi technologies that leave users tied to legacy communications. The ALR-S350 breaks customers free from these restrictions and enables them to use the technologies that best suit their application, and to upgrade them at any time without having to change the RFID device.”

The new ALR-S350 solution features:
  • A double-capacity single battery, enabling up to 24 hours of intensive use
  • A robust design with drop/impact testing to 1.5 m / 4.9 ft, IP 54 dust/water rating and a Quad Lock® for secure smart device mounting
  • An antenna that can operate as linear, circular or in proximity modes
  • Effortless Bluetooth connection to any smart device through the use of Bluetooth Low Energy (BTLE)
Additionally, the reader supports:
  • A typical tag read-rate of 200 tags per second
  • All major 1D and 2D barcodes
Unlike other handheld readers, the ALR-S350 is supplied as a complete kit, ready to operate without having to purchase other ‘necessary accessories.’ “Most vendors sell the reader alone, omitting the power supply and the cradle. All these add hidden costs to published pricing,” said Mitchell.

The ALR-S350 is available today in the U.S. and Europe for $1599, which includes:
  • The ALR-S350 RFID sled
  • A Li-Po double-capacity 7000mAh 3.7V battery
  • A multi-national power adapter/charging kit
  • A cradle/dock with spare battery charging slot
  • A micro USB cable for charging your smart device when the ALR-S350 is docked

This revolutionary approach to leasing Pick-to-Light devices on a month-to-month, pay-as-you-go basis avoids long-term commitments and costly up-front fees.

A companion product, SKU-Keeper Inventory Management, is designed for warehouses that do not have an existing WMS or ERP system. Emphasizing simplicity and ease-of-use, the cloud software is also leased on a low-cost, low-risk month-to-month basis.

The company also provides smart, ROI (return-on-investment) driven Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) with an innovative 3D user interface, compatible with Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Safari. The robotic systems are designed, simulated and run, all using a Warehouse Descriptive Language (WDL), a concept invented by the company.

WASH, DRAIN & DRY WITHOUT PARTS TRANSFER

$

MFG Tray, (Molded Fiber Glass Tray Company) has a line of versatile utility, high-strength FRP wash boxes whose composite material construction costs approximately one-third the cost of traditional stainless steel wire baskets.  They also serve as a labor-saving solution-from secondary process cleaning to work-in-process storage.  By minimizing the "dumps" from machining and washing operations-to-container, the use of the composite wash box results in less labor and reduced part damage/scrap.  Another key end-use advantage of the durable FRP wash-box construction vs. metal wash baskets is safety.  The fact is, metal wash baskets frequently break and can leave dangerous wires poking out-which presents an employee safety hazard and could also damage sensitive parts.
  • Inherent fiberglass strength, rigidity and durability
  • Ideal for cleaning, storing and inventorying machined parts
  • 1/3 the cost of stainless steel wire baskets
  • Operatings temps to 250°F, intermittently to 300°F
  • Handles up to 150lb payload capacity
  • Safer alternative than metal wash boxes
  • Impervious to cutting oils, detergents, mild acids and alkaline solutions
  • Easily cleaned using standard detergents
FRP FORMING PROCESS/PRODUCTION ADVANTAGES:
  • In-house machining of the wash-box bottom holes (1/4" or 3/8" diameter) and elongated side slots (2 ½" x 5/16") -allows a variety of sizes for custom orders
  • Can be customized per client request to meet advanced corrosion specifications
  • Available in a variety of sizes
Molded Fiber Glass Tray, MFG Tray, is a leading manufacturer of high-strength, glass-reinforced composite containers, trays, boxes, flats and totes for material handling in the metalworking, plastics and electronics assembly industries, as well as in food service, confectionery and pharmaceutical processing.
